The Art in Ceramics

If you ever worked in a scientific lab you have probably used a crucible or beaker.  I bet you didn't know that these things are considered art.  That's right I just found out that the Denver Art Museum is going to open up an exhibit revolved around lab equipment and tools made by CoorsTek.  Don't believe just check out this link.  Now I myself am a little skeptical of ceramic lab ware as art but hey this is very unique form of science communication.  This exhibits is going to expose a new audience of people to the scientific aspect of ceramics.  So mark your calenders for June 11.

  1. The beauty of art is that it can be found in anything. If you looked at things with your heart instead of your brain...like you engineers tend to do...you would see the beauty in a crucible. How do you judge the crucible in such a cruel way? Why should the crucible be restricted to such a life...that its only purpose is to hold things? Why can it not be a swimming pool for a ladybug or a home for a hermit crab? Do not be so quick to assign purpose to things. We are all brainwashed into thinking we have a purpose in this world...but really we all have many purposes. You are more than just an engineer just as the crucible is more than just a container.

  2. The beauty of art is it is open to interpretation. I can choose to see something for the purpose it was made. I love the idea of this exhibit. It's very unique and when I go it I may have a deeper understanding for the art. In the end even if a crucible is used a swimming pool or home it is still holding things.

  4. Man some people are just ignorant! We live in a free country where every one is entitled to their own stupid opinion. This is an example of that

  9. Wow I don't look at the comments for one minute and you guys turn this into some kind of ideological argument. This is not the place for these kind of arguments. This site is about communication ceramics to the public. In the future please refrain these personal attacks or I will be forced to block future comments made by both of you.
