US Army Purchases Ceramic Body Armor

On January 4, 2011 the United States Army ordered $5.8 millions worth of body armor from Ceradyne, Inc.  The armor ordered is design for personnel small arms fire.  Ceradyne, Inc. is one of leading suppliers of ceramic armor to the US military.  Ceramic armor used in personnel body armor has a great compressive strength to weight advantage compared to metals like steel.  This allows greater mobility without a loss in protection.

Welcome

Thank you for taking a look at Taking A Bullet.  This blog is dedicated to the science and application of ceramic armors.  I hope to provide weekly post that include information on production, research and the application of ceramic armors in the field.  I do not claim to be an expert in the field so feel free to provide your input and opinion on my post.  I do ask that you keep your comments respectful and courteous.  I hope you enjoy this blog.
